My vacation with family! (Sept 2006)

Recently I had a chance to unwind in Kerala (via Bangalore and return via Madurai), along with family. My kids had their quaterly exam vacation hence this trip.

First we went to Bangalore, stayed there for 2 days and a night, saw around the places where we were before, as we were visiting after a long time, met some old friends and went to the famous shopping spots (Brigade, MG Roads and Commercial) with some Kolu shopping at Cauvery and the no new McDonalds - a very good one which kids liked - toys with meal. The lunch at Kamat Minerva and dinner at MTR was superb!

After a trip to the Lalbagh Gardens, we then flew next day afternoon to Calicut from Bangalore, to relax at the backwaters of Kerala.

There is a famous five star resort in Calicut - about 10 kms away - called Kadavu. Stayed there for 3 days and 2 nights. Superb service and the best deal!. We enjoyed a lot. Kids liked their fish and other Non Veg curries. I cannot comment on that, as I am a vegetarian for now. This resort is on the backwaters and we stayed in a very good view room. You can see lots of foreigners there. We saw a show of Kalari payatu and a Kathak dance.

Then we went to Madurai via Coimbatore and stayed there for a day and did darshan in various temples including MeenakshiAmman temple, Alagar Koil and Palamuthir Cholai.

Enjoyable trip...

Flaw in Duckworth-Lewis Method

Yesterday (Sept 14th, 2006) India lost against West Indies in the match conducted at Malaysia.

There is not allowance given in terms of field restrictions, where typically 20% of runs are made extra in the Power-plays. So in effect West Indies, had made only 113 (-20% on 141).

Of course there is an issue of team batting second, with a reduced score, where the pro-rata approximation can be used.

I would re-device the method like this.

Say if the team 1 batting first bats the full 50 overs, in the alloted time.

(1) If there is rain interruption after the team 2, bats for greater than 20 overs for a result. Take out 20% of runs, or the difference in run rate of the opposition.
India bats first and makes 309/5 and 133/2 in 20 overs, so the run rate difference is 6.65 - 6.18 = 0.47 or 4.7% less. Hence the actual run made by West Indies is 141/2 ( - 20% + 4.7% ) = 119. So in effect India won, by 14 runs.

(2) If there is rain interruption before the second session, and there is loss of say 30 overs, due to time. So the team batting second has to make 20% more than the average run-rate needed. For example, India bats first and makes 309/5 and 133/2 in 20 overs, the target has to be 6.2 + 20% = 7.64, which means West Indies should be given a target of 153. Even with this, WI made only 141, hence lost by 12 runs.

Note - the nearest whole number should be used.

Sani Dasa and it effects for 19 years

Sani Dasa runs for 19 years in a 120 years cycle. Maha Dasa. (starting from Moon – Vimothri dasa)
Bhukthi is the total period of a planet in the MahaDasa – here it is 19/ (Dasa Period) for Sani / Shani about 19/120 of the time of Shani in your Bhukthi period. 798 days.
Anthra is the subdivision of the above and once again using the same principle as above, it works to 798 * 19/120 = 126 days, where super things happen in a person life.
So for a given Dasa and Bhuthkti and Anthra, the first period is itself. Lots of changes happen then based on the transit of the planet itself in various houses. Note that Sun and Moon period, always good results only in a given house – 12 you have. Venus gives a total changeover. Hmm.. Kethu and Rahu, are unpredictable. But it follows the pattern what its own predecessor does.
Here is the list with 120 as the period & percent of time ( Dasa/Bhukthi/Anthra ). Sort of the revolution time, around sun (but Parashara thought of keeping Earth Centric – thats why you dont see Earth in the 12!).
1  Sa 19 15.83%
2  Me 17 14.17%
3  Ke 7 5.83%
4  Ve 20 16.67%
5  Su 6 5.00%
6  Mo 10 8.33%
7  Ma 7 5.83%
8  Ra 18 15.00%
9  Ju 16 13.33%
All the software using Swiss based Ephimeris DLL, take the starting point of the DOB and give you the chart for 120 years – assuming the max years a person can live is 120 only!

God and FAITH

An atheist professor of philosophy speaks to his class on the
problem science has with God, The Almighty. He asks one of his new
students to stand and .....

Prof: So you believe in God?
Student: Absolutely, sir.

Prof: Is God good?
Student: Sure.

Prof: Is God all-powerful ?
Student: Yes.

Prof: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to God to
heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But
God didn't. How is this God good then? Hmm?
Student is silent.

Prof: You can't answer, can you? Let's start again, young fellow.
Is God good?
Student: Yes.

Prof: Is Satan good?
Student: No.

Prof: Where does Satan come from?
Student: From...God...

Prof: That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?
Student: Yes.

Prof: Evil is everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything.
Correct?
Student: Yes.

Prof: So who created evil?
Student does not answer.

Prof: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these
terrible things exist in the world, don't they?
Student: Yes, sir.

Prof: So, who created them?
Student has no answer.

Prof: Science says you have 5 senses you use to identify and
observe the world around you. Tell me, son...Have you ever seen God?
Student:No, sir.

Prof: Tell us if you have ever heard your God?
Student: No, sir.

Prof: Have you ever felt your God, tasted your God, smelt your
God? Have you ever had any sensory perception of God for that
matter?
Student: No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.

Prof: Yet you still believe in Him?
Student: Yes.

Prof: According to empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol,
science says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?
Student: Nothing. I only have my faith.

Prof: Yes. Faith. And that is the problem science has.

Student: Professor, is there such a thing as heat?
Prof: Yes.

Student: And is there such a thing as cold?
Prof: Yes.

Student: No sir. There isn't.
(The lecture theatre becomes very quiet with this turn of events.)

Student: Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat,
superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we
don't have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero
which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is
no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the
absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not
the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.
(There is pin-drop silence in the lecture theatre.)

Student: What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as
darkness?
Prof: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?

Student:You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of
something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light,
flashing light....But if you have no light constantly, you have
nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it? In reality, darkness
isn't. If it were you would be able to make darkness darker,
wouldn't you?
Prof: So what is the point you are making, young man?

Student: Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.
Prof:Flawed? Can you explain how?

Student: Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue
there is life and then there is death, a good God and a bad God. You
are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can
measure. Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses
electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully
understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to
be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive
thing. Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it.
Now tell me, Professor. Do you teach your students that they evolved
from a monkey?
Prof: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process,
yes, of course, I do.

Student: Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?
(The Professor shakes his head with a smile, beginning to realize
where the argument is going.)

Student: Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution
at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going
endeavor, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a
scientist but a preacher?
(The class is in uproar.)

Student: Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the
Professor's brain?
(The class breaks out into laughter.)

Student: Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's
brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so.
So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable,
demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, sir. With
all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?
(The room is silent. The professor stares at the student, his face
unfathomable.)
Prof: I guess you'll have to take them on faith, son.

Student: That is it sir... The link between man & god is FAITH.
That is all that keeps things moving & alive. . . . . . .

THAT STUDENT WAS . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Classic Case of Twins with KP System

How would you explain about two people born on the same time(recorded), at the same hospital having different fates? Rich-poor,Healthy-weak etc.

The classic case of twins, born to a mother by operation, having thesame exact Natal Chart. (Lagna, Stars,...). Father did not have anywealth at all, he was a bag lifter in a cotton mill.
DOB 19-1-1964, 7.50AM, Coimbatore.

(1) One is surviving who has Polio, is poor. Unmarried. Plus two.
(2) The other one very Healthy, Civil Engineer and had a decentsalary, passed away in an accident at age 27 (21-5-1991), married -love (21-1-1990) with a kid then.

Answer

I am not also trying to prove one system of analysis is better than other. I am also learning here. I would say even the first time recorded is not that accurate by few seconds.
I am not analysisng the entire chart, but giving the pointers of the houses concerned as given.

What has heppened in life, is shown above with that extra 20 secs.

Here is small explanation with KP system, with the Cuspal Sub Lord theory. (I am not explaining on Significators and Ruling Planets here)

(1) 7.30 AM - time corrected (shows about his health and matches with education)

Asc with Mo/Ju, 2nd STL/CSL Ra/Ve, 3rd, Sa/Ju, 5th Mo/Ju, 7th Sat/Jup, 8th Ve/Ve,
10th Ra/Ke, 11th Sa/Ju and Other RPs Su-Su-Sa, Mo-Mo-Ma, Ve-Ra-Ju, Sa-Ma-Sa

Ra with Ve late marrage for (2,7,11) also one of the cause for low education (3,8,5).

(2) 7.30.20 AM - Doctor/Nurse has confirmed, it took about 15 to 20 seconds, to move the second baby out.

ASC with Mo/Ju, 2nd STL/CSL Ra/Ke, 3rd Sa/Ju, 5th Mo/Ju , 7th Sat/Jup, 8th Ve/Ve,
10th Ra/Ve, 11th Sa/Ju Other RPs Su-Su-Sa, Mo-Mo-Ma, Ve-Ra-Ju, Sa-Ma-Sa

Now what is different from above?

Only CSL of Ke instead of Ve changes in 2 and 10.
That was enough for change in his fate.

7th shows about marrage, confirmed as love for (2, 11) and marriage date matched.
Also his 8, 12, 2 and 7 has shown serious health issues on Sun Transit time during May 1991 (Kethu effect). Also Su and Ve helped in profession (10).

Punarphoo Dosa on KP System

This is the discussion summary, I send to people.. on Punarphoo Dosa. (Punarphoo in Tamil means, conjugal)

Malefic effects (marraige and Health only) Sat-Ven-Moon.

For Punarphoo we have to look at 4, 8, 10, 12 and with strong Saturn (RP), with Venus affliction, and under the Moon period, delays happen (note 2, 7, 11 not in picture). Few add more house too. In fact, all the 12 houses, with have these 3 planet combinatons some point of time. I have seen on that with Mars too! But not all in Sat DBA. There are verious combinations to look at.

When someone hears, that he has dosa, he puts blame on destiny and moves on. This is traditonal astrology. Nice placebo effect.

Bhagvad Gita and my Interpretations

Life teaches s so many things...

My hobby of writing takes a twist and is going to Spirituality....

I am penning "Bhagvad Gita - My Interpretations", to be published through a Southern Imprint. It will have 365 Verses, for everyday healing. I will also try to make it available with Google Online.

It is my my way of helping people, based on the repeated queries I used to get for Astrological readings. Dont get bogged down by Supersitions.

A sample verse in my way...

"Do thy work, and thy shall not expect any return" - Bhagvad Gita. III Verse.

All about KP System

PRINCIPLES OF K.P. ASTROLOGY

1. General Introduction to Astrology
2. K.P. system
3. Natal Astrology
4. Horary Astrology
5. Horoscope Matching or Compatibility study

1. General Introduction to Astrology

The sky of 360 degrees is divided equally into twelve zodiac signs of 30 degrees each and into twenty-seven constellations of 13 degrees and 20 minutes each. There are nine planets including two nodes, Rahu and Kethu. Each constellation has a lord called its star lord. As there are twenty-seven constellations and only nine planets to act as their star lords, three constellations have the same planet as star lord. Thus sky has a three-fold symmetry from star lord point of view and 0 degree to 120 degrees,120 degrees to 240 degrees and 240 degrees to 360 degrees have the same star lord structure.

2. K.P. system

We have twelve cusps. In K.P. system, the starting point of a cusp house is called its cusp. Ascendant is the first cusp and the first cusp house extends form the first cusp to the second cusp. Similarly, other cusps can be calculated up to the twelfth cusp, strictly following K.P. system and K.P. ayanamsa. These cusp houses represent different matters or events of our life. The cusp sublords and planetary sub lords play various roles in materialising events in our day-to-day life. Prof. K.S. Krishnamurti studied the conventional Vedic and Western astrological techniques and found that they are very good in explaining the past events, but often fail to predict the future matters. They fail to explain why twins sometimes exhibit different behavioural patterns, though they are born with only few minutes’ difference. Thus,he thought of dividing a constellation (longitude of 13 degrees 20 minutes) into nine subdivisions following Vinshottari system. He assigned to each division a lord, sequentially, starting with the star lord of the first division with the name of the star lord of the constellation. If the constellation having Sun as star lord is divided into nine sub divisions, then the order is: Sun,Moon, Mars,Rahu,Jupiter,Saturn,Mercury, Kethu and Venus. These subdivisions are called sub lords or simply, subs. In K.P. system, the transiting planet or the planet in the natal (birth)chart is the source to offer the result depending upon its nature, occupation and ownership of the cusp house. This planet (source) offers the matters (or events) signified by the houses owned and occupied by its star lord (or the lord of the constellation where it is transiting or is deposited in the natal chart). The sub lord is the final deciding factor, which votes in favour or against the event. Thus in summary, the matters indicated by the star lord are offered through the planet transiting or deposited on it as per birth chart and the sub lord is the final deciding factor for materialisation of the event. In this method it is often possible to exactly pinpoint the date and time of occurrence of the event in future with one hundred percent accuracy.

3. Natal Astrology

Data required: Correct Birth details i.e. date, time (in IST or GMT) and place (i.e. latitude N/S & longitude E/W). Natal astrology deals with the computations and predictions based upon the birth details(date, time and place (i.e. latitude N/S & longitude E/W) of birth) . The birth time is sometimes not correctly recorded which ultimately results in error in prediction. In K.P. system, we have ruling planet technique to correct the birth time, if past single occurrence events like date of marriage or childbirth etc. are known.

4. Horary Astrology

Data required: 1. One question on a particular topic. 2. A number (between 1 to 249), called horary number. 3. Date, time (in IST or GMT) and place (i.e. latitude N/S & longitude E/W) of the querist. In K.P. system, there are 249 sub lords in the zodiac and the querist is requested to tell his question and a number, between 1 and 249,which comes to his mind while putting the question. In this Divine science of astrology, there is one to one correspondence between the R.P.s (ruling planets) of the time of asking the question and the time of materialisation of the event. There is one ascendant corresponding to each horary number and a chart can be drawn, if date, time, place and this number are known. This astrology is called horary astrology and is more accurate and suitable for individual questions on any one walk of life.

5. Horoscope Matching or Compatibility study

Data required: Correct Birth details i.e. date, time (in IST or GMT) and place (i.e. latitude N/S & longitude E/W). We move with like-minded people and avoid those who do not conform to our state of mind. This matching is very much essential, particularly for marriage,so that the couple can enjoy a long and happy life.It can be done taking natal horoscopes of two persons and analysing them as per Vedic and K.P. systems.

A Note - When people are asking me for readings, on any issues, please include the data, and as many events with dates as possible, to predict the future! If you cannot fix the past, cannot see the future!

How I caught an email fraudster in Chennai

As you are aware, myself and some other friends/peers/learned Gurus are providing Free Astro consultations using the KP system, on various Astro groups on the internet. Being the scientifc way, solutions are obtained fast. The only benefits accrued is the database of certain special cases (handled anonymously without names).

I get 100's of emails with no genuine interests in getting the actual reading. So I started telling from end of July 2006, anyone interested should donate to a worthy cause and send me the proof. This was a success, 99% people of bogus interest or fishing for a free reading, who are willing to spend money on hours of internet service, but not for a worthy cause, stopped emailing!

I spend my weekends and free times in the weekdays, to do this yeoman service.

Now about, "How I caught an email fraudster in Chennai".... This all happened in the last 24 hours.

This person, born in a South Indian City of Tamilnadu, studied at one of the good Engineering college in Tamilnadu. He is actually a network admin person now, as his brains didnt work to be a developer, who had job hopped a multiple times, and fired few times, in his earlier jobs, on unwanted activity in the company hours using internet.

Few days before he sent me a mail requesting for a free reading about his delayed marriage. He had also cribbed in his mail about spending lots of money to astrologers, pariharas, and even for his own astro software for his own predictions. I did a Prasna, and found out that this was a bogus interest, and replied him with a standard reply. He replied back saying, that he works for a Government Agency, a SPY and has military contacts and I will have to face dire consequences, if I dont give him a proper reading. I said enough is enough, and called my Security specialists friends in the IT field. I also checked with the IT Act (2000) experts on this type of mail. There was a Cybercrime committed. I gave the copies of the emails I had from him, and also pointings to his traces on the groups, where he had left messages. Luckily he had used the same birth dates all over being truthful there, so evidence was there all around the web.

I used my contacts with the authorities and the my own friends in the Cyber Security area, and tracked the locations of the person, to his office and also to his home, where he had emailed from. This person, forgot that in all the webmail programs, the origin IP address is also sent along with it and that is his Jathaka. You have heard about certain arrests in India using this technique. I ensured that this is not leaked to the newspapers and media. Sworn to secrecy!

A trap was set, and today morning he has been taken to custody.

Also this was notified to his current employer of few months, an MNC company, of sending frauduent threatening mails from the office internet service to outsiders (first of all using webmail from office was banned there it seems). Monday morning is going to be a very new day for that person, in a different environment.

I hope this serves as a warning to others, who are trying to fraud and threaten people! Technology will catch them, somehow.

KP Hororary Astrology

KP Horary Astrology is a prominent branch of Astrology, which is more, perfect, wonderful and more useful for those, who dont know their time of birth. Horary word derived from ‘hora’ of Sanskrit, which means hour. In this branch predictions are forecasted on the base of horoscope, casted at the time of Query, called Horary Horoscope.

This method based on Nakshatras, is a rational and has a scientific approach as any other branch of astrology and it is the sublime art at foreseeing events from the position of the planets at the moment when one propounds seriously a question about any important matter.

In Nakshatra based Horary system, the astrologer asks the querist to give a number at random from 1 up to 249. The number that is given by the querist and the time when he/she asks the question forms the base for the prediction. It is the ruling planets at the time of query, which enables the astrologer to predict. The number that he/she gives depends upon his/her mind, which is governed by the Moon. So that particular number Reflect the question and answer, in the ruling planets, which govern the time of query. This branch is a discovery of Prof. K S. Krishnamurti, the world fame researcher of K. P. System in Vedic Indian Astrology. It is so clear, convincing and correct which is resorted to, mostly by those, who doubt the correctness of their birth data. Horary astrology can answer all your questions and clear all doubts even without your correct birth details.

This system completely follows principles of astrology. `By applying it one can predict the longevity, health, success or failure in ones enterprise, ones stay in foreign or return to native place, the time of marriage and description of partner, reunion or divorce, re-marriage, birth of children, result of examination, recovery of lost articles, gain by lottery, races or speculations, success in litigation, treasure legacy, even day to days minor issues like when will my kid come back from school? Anything and everything, which is chasing the peace of your mind and family, you can ask. Thousands of people, who were doubtful for their birth details, are already benefited with divine branch of Vedic Indian Astrology.

Using KP Stellar System I can give the time period of the event to happen, if it is an "Yes".

Please note the answer could be "Yes" or "No" only. I cannot give names etc...

SIP doesnt score, timing is everything.

Contrary to the popular belief, SIP doesnt score. Only the market sentiment induced timing, gives greater returns.

Looking at my Current Portfolio in 7 SIP funds, invested from Nov 2004 (closer to 5 lakhs), SIP has not given even half of the timing investments, with lumpsum.

These are the funds I invested in (All dividend payout options - all re-invested back as lumpsum).

HDEQ - HDFC Equity Fund
HDT200 - HDFC Top 200
BDY1 - Biral Dividend yield
DSO1 - DSP Opportunites
FTP1 - Franlin Prima
KPB1 - Franklin Bluechip
ANM - Birla New Millenium

Regular 248606.44 562919.56 126.43%
SIP 220967.71 322900.78 46.13%
All 469574.15 885820.34 88.64%

I have mailed the exact details and reasons of my timing of investments, to the self style guru of Mutual Funds, Dhirendra Kumar of Valuersearchonline.com, and for some reason he is silent. Immediately there is one story appearing saying SIPs score, Always. That is total bull.

KP System based Astro Predictions

I have been learning KP System based Astro Predictions since 1989, and I understand about the needs for people to know what is in store for them. I am not like a traditional person, doing a blind reading about past. I ask about it, why tell what is known, or what if the chart goes wrong. So I get the details of 10 major events in their life and try to do a pattern matching, to ensure the fit, and hence the future can be correct. This is unlike traditional astrology.

Why did I start this? Well in 1989, you would have read my debacle in the DC Machines paper at my college. After the time, I gave a serious thought about astrology and hence was keen on a scientific way as the traditional period was meant to be total success. Then found KP system, founded by Shri Krishnamuthi. (aka Shri KSK). I was amazed at the Cuspal Sub Lord theory on giving exact results for a given event. Hence the service to people. I have seen 10,000+ charts, and I feel, this gives some courage to help people, if not accurate.

You may contact me with you details, with name, date and correct time of birth, and place, with latitude and longitude. The subject should be "KP Prediction".

In case you want to know whether an event will happen or not, mail me the question (one only), with a number picked between 1 to 249, at the time of seriously thinking about the question. (This is called KP Hororary)

As always, you take full responsibility on acting upon suggestions provided.

***
If you would like to have a KP Chart / Hororary predictions done, do contact me on the email id vijayashankar dot india @ gmail dot com

I charge Rs 1,000/- for India residing Indians and US $ 100/- for NRI's foreigners. All proceeds go towards charity!

Indian team selection for Srilankan Tour

Stupid!

Thats the exclamation I can think about on the selection of Indian cricket team during July/Aug 2006. They have missed out picking Zaheer Khan and Sourav Ganguly. Dropping Y Venugopala Rao and Robin Uthappa, is a silly mistake. Kiran More and Abhijit Kale have proved to the world what happens behind the selections.

Anyway, stars of Sachin are not good, and hence he would miserably fail, as Sanjay Manjrekar says. So there is a need for new young blood.

Anil Kumble is a must. Missing out Dinesh Kaarthick, is a pathetic mistake. That guy is capable of scoring 400 plus runs in a single day, which shows how hard hitting batsman he is. Krish Srikkanth is not promoting Tamilnadu players enough. His concern is his two sons only, who are playing lousy cricket.

The quota system of bringing Dinesh Mongia, bcoz, the proximity to the Pawar camp is a real mistake.

This Indian Cricket team sucks! The will win only if other two teams really suck most!

Go Air and the fleecing of customer

I had a terrible experience with Go Air recently. This is how they fleece customers?

I was booking 4 tickets on June 23rd (tried thrice), owing to the special Rs 525/- per ticket offer they promoted.

My credit card is charged twice, and they are yet to refund my money. The stupid Indian Credit card system, allows the merchant to charge, if the number is with them, rather than denying the payment. Government is not bothering about this at all.

Looks like this is how Jeh Wadia makes money? This will get published all over the world!

My Lovely Chennai

There are different sides to the story of Chennai (aka Madras). Still, compared to Mumbai (aka Bombay), it houses about one sixth of the states populations.
This is the only place on earth, where the land real estate brokers call, a place Thirukalukundram which is 75 Kms away, as outskirts of City.
Language is not a problem here, English suits well. Thamizh is the lcal language, adn Telugu and Malayalam are common. Urdu and Hindi to an extent can be used. The famous Madras Basai Tamizh laden with telugu and Hindi slangs, is the best. The Gana songs are the best.
Thanks to the torrential rain during last October 2005, there is plenty of water, and we dont buy water at Rs 800 per tanker of 1200 Liters. No Amma did this, but Varuna Bhagawan. The rents inside city are moving upwards, while on the OMR (lousy stinky place when it rains) it is skyrocketing - Velachery/Perungudi onwards.
There is a place called Kannagi nagar, named is changed I think, which waas shown in one Rajesh's movie 2 years ago, where peopel used to live on the Old Veeranam scheme pipes.
This is a strange city where the Kannagi statue is moved out of the pedestal, as one Keralite Jyotish, said, an angry widow, pointing to the ruling place. Now that jyotish, is scouting for peopel to visit him, advertising in Deccan Chronicle That is another story.
This is a holy place for the Cinema - Kollywood, where all forms of stars are born and brought up. Heroes and politicians are made. And they end up ruling, irrespective of the part affiliations. For the people, by the people.
Food is very good here. Saravana Bhavan, sort of charges five star rates. Ther eis one good joint called Raj Bhavan near Royapettah Police Station, cheap and best. Ofcourse, Ponnusamy is great fornon veg food. For sweets, visit Sri Krishna Sweets (but they should have clean waiters and waitresses working). For shopping ther eis Pondy Bazaar.
The college crowd is gifted with lots of Ice Cream Parlours. Recently I visited one MW parlour opposite to Ethiraj college, which gives 50% of your total weight as discount, provided you are a menber, this is valid till end of May 2006.
The ECR (East Coast Road) which leads to Mahanbalipuram and Pondicherry (to be changed to Pudhucherry soon) has drive in theatres and best food joints. There are there parks like VGP and MGM located. Crocodile park and the Dolhin city is also there.
Chennai has the best Zoo at Vandaloor, after the Airport.
Auto drivers do fleece people, but they are very helpful. City buses are crowded.
Last but not the least, the worlds second longest beach - Merina (there is a proposal to change its name to Kannagi beach soon), is one beautiful sight. You get good bajjis, cooked in front of you. Also the Sundal and Verkadalai is the best. Beggars menace is also there. The Police are very friendly and helpful. You can see big stars and VIPs on the side walks doing ther evening walks.

Ooty - Lovely Place on Planet Earth

Ooty (aka Ootacamund - Kothar Mandhu - House of Kothars), is the Lovely place on Planet Earth. Best compared to Shimla, Kodaikanal and Yercaud.
With Dodabetta, peaking on the top and the Ketty valley (Santhoor) on the downside, this is one wonderful place on the Earth.
It can be reached from Two sides, one from Gudalur and the other Mettupalayam. It is about 2.5 hours uphill drive.
Coonoor comes first, on the way, with a view on the side - vallies and all.
All the Indian movies song scenes are shot here. There is Manjoor which is the best.
The cost of stay would be cheap from Rs 400/- to Rs 4000/-, based on budget per day. The sight seeing cost is cheap, with auto-rickshaws plying around.... Food is also cheap. Hot vegetarian food is served in most of the hotels.
What else can I say, having lived closer to Ooty at Kotagiri, just 18 kma away.
The best family vacation spot - cheap and best.

Mandal, Reservation, Quota Issues.

The Quota demonstrators can do the following to ensure the government listens

(1) Throw away or burn the passports and pledge alliance for working only for India.
(2) Make the relatives, return back to India and work only in India. (No NRI;s)
(3) Dont work for the MNCs, and work only for the people (Indian co's, wiothout FII stake) and rural upliftment, in small towns/villages.
(4) Shun giving interviews to foreign owned or run channels like CNN-IBN.

This will definitely make the government, make the Caste column in the school/college application form disappear, and everyone is accepted on merit.

Also these IIT and IIM fellas, should stop working for foreign companies right away and give all the money earnt so far, into the Prime Ministers relief fund. Do a Rang De Basanti!

I am waiting for all the reservations to be removed. Also apprecaite Shri Arjun Singhji's determinance. I think he is going to add, 40% more seats - to ensure all are happy. There is fee cut in the offing.

The poem I wrote after 9/11

Is it my time?

Has my time come?
Is it that bad or gone?
I am like and eagle now
Flying high in the clouded skies with sorrow
Unlike the circus performer on ring
Rather than like a mountaineer wandering
I get the shock of the lifetime
To watch the worst crime
There goes the twin towers crumbling
Sending a strong message of shivering
A satanic action of bombing
Sorrowful people left insane and loathing
Diving to their last fall
Will this terrorism die at all?

How Kaavya Gets Caught and goes down.

I was very surprised to see Americans leaving a person of color to shine for long... the same guys Alloy as reported by Boston Globe and other harvard fanatics, and the Watergate relations, confirmed by the beauty Anjelina Jolie in her article/interview.

http://www.pugbus.net/artman/publish/20060429_22_joliefilm.shtml

Good that she wants to purchase the copyright and move on with the movie. I wish a Part 1 and Part 2.

Anjelina Jolie, if you read this please email me.

No wonder, these Americans (USA, you sue me, me sue you kids) are after any successful people!

There is a brain mapping theory which says that, the depcition of a scene of a book, by nature, can be literally same, if it is imbibed.

Here Little Brown & Co, would have used the same Editor for the book, who might have worked for the McFarty book.

Markets at 12000 (BSE Sensex)

The markets are at mind boggling 12000 (BSE Sensex) and ET says, 15000 with at P/E 17 is the tough call, which might be during April 2007, after the budget. Then everyone should exit market.

Today Sun TV got listed at Rs 1000- and has gone upto 1,444, owing to punters hit. The groups Market Cap is at Rs 10,000 crores. Humble beginning for Kalanidhi Maran and family.

My trip to Tirupathi on April 23rd, 2006

I had travelled to Tirupathi on April 23rd, 2006 with my family, to finish a venduthal, in terms of tonsuring hair in my kids heads. We both also gave poo-mudi.

It was after 7 years and 4 months since my last trip (Nov 1998 after my marriage).

We booked thru Sri Renga Travels, T Nagar Chennai (Phone 3299 7719), 12 days in advance, with an executive package @ 1400 Rs per tix in a Toyota Qualis (this varies lower for a Tempo Traveller ride), and they also charged for kids @ 50%. The actual travel was arranged by Sree Balaji Travels, who has good contacts on the travel darshan, might even charge lesser. We were part of another group of family, owing to entrance tickets. They had booked Unjal Seva at 12 PM for Rs 2000/-, catering to 10 adults. Only 10 laddoo's are given.

We started at 5 PM from house, starting point was T Nagar, Siva Vishnu Temple @ Chennai. The journey started with a group of 3 vehicles. We had sumptuous breakfast at Sri Vema Hotel AC at Tiruvallur (2 Idlis, 1 vada, 1 Dosai and 1 Pongal plus Coffee) at 7.30 AM. We started at 8 AM and reached Tiruchanoor (Alamelumangapuram) at 9.15 AM, on the way we saw two snakes on the road, and had a quick Darshan for Rs 25- in the Rs 200 queue, where sandwiching fo people is quite common. The pickpockets were having a heyday! We started for Tirupathi (reached adivaram at 9.40AM) and after few minutes of checkup of vehicle, we were enroute to Tirumala, abode of Lord Balaji (Venkatesa Perumal).

We reached the top, 20 KMs, and reached the VIP guest house of M/S Lloyds Steel, and on paying Rs 250/- finished the Veduthal tonsure (Actual cost Rs 10/- per head only), and had a good bath and reached Vaigundam at 11.30 AM, in time for the 12 PM darshan, after the hand baggage scan. Too much rush and large crowds, owing to holiday season for kids. To put money in the Hundi, the gaurds are taking bribe to help you cut the line. On finishing the hot sandwiching darshan, kids crying, and after having Free Prasadham - Sweet Pongal, we came out to collect ladoos. Hawkers were selling Ladoos illegally for Rs 30 each piece. I think they give a cut to HDFC counter.Since temperatures were hovering at 40 deg Celsius, walking was uncomfortable, from the temple to the parking lot on the cement plaster openway, but mud was cooler. Those idiots, who are trustees, walkin front of the temple from car, hence they dont know the pain of walking in the hot sun, why cant they put a shelter, when the temple collects 2 to 3 crores a day as donation. They should also take care of women getting molested. Scent can be sprayed in the temple complex to get rid of gas smell with huge fans. I dont know how the Ministers, CM, PM, Presidents and of course Ambani's have the darshans.

I saw a newly wed couple, the groom from USA I suppose, with a good looking bride, married at Tirupathi, donating a bunch of $ 100 notes in the Hundi, with a gold coin! Probably a very nice match etc... The lady was also climbing on the side bars, to have the darshan as she was short!

We reached the down of the hill, after a minor accident, by the sleepy driver in one of the 59 air pin bends (old road). For Rs 70/- the sumptuous lunch South Indian thali at Bhima's residency was good. They give that to the travels at Rs 52/-. We had to pay the difference for the cost of 2 Batura's, for one kids meal coupon. Nice system! We reached home at 7 PM. The trip was quick, and in the last 30 years of my travel to Tirupathi, this was the easiest and costliest trip. Less painful. May Lord Balaji shower his blessings on us. (One of my wish was to be the richest person on thee earth, beating the Sheikhs and Bushes and Bill Gates)

Kaavya Viswanathan

An interview

http://www.bookpage.com/0604bp/kavya_viswanathan.html

Wow that IBACD IndianBornAmericanConfusedDesi Girl is intelligent!

Violence and IT life in Bangalore

It was sad and unfortunate on the sudden demise of Dr. Rajkumar Anna at Bangalore.

The miscreants went amock looting Tamil owned shops, and setting fire.... very sad indeed. The loss of 5 lives, and that of a policeman was unwanted. May their soul rest in peace.

It was good to see, all the companies declaring holidays and CM taking extra steps.

None of my friends were affected. Few of my friends who were to take trains on Thursday, just dropped their plans and stayed put. Myself, supposed to be there for the weekend getaway with family, cancelled the flight tix.

Stock Market Crashes again!

Today is another Blackday! 600 points on the Sensex, have been eroded and the investors have lost more than 75000 crores in last two days!

The FII's have made enough on the market and they are moving out elsewhere (Vietnam may be).

The petrol cost uncertainty, has trigerred this problem!

Funny thing, yesterday a person from HDFC bank calls me to make investment, rightaway saying that this is the time to buy! When I ased him to guarantee my capital, he was shocked!

I can predict market will tank another 2% to 10900, before stabilising! 12000 by July is the bet!

DC Machines cups (1987)

An anecdote - from PSG Tech BE EEE 1986-90 batch.

I call this DC Machines cups (1987)

There was this Lecturer (Senior guy) called Swamy, who was keen on University Senate politics than teaching us in 1987 (III Sem). Out of possible 17 classes, he taught us for 5, and gave a mini quiz on 6th and thats it. Never turned up at classes, and based on the feedback from Seniors, we kept mum, and never told anyone in the Mgmt. Happy with the free class and the World Cup. The evaluation system is marked based ( Internal - 25, Part A - 37.5., B - 37.5), out of which a part is evaluated outside (IIT, BITS or RECs). So all were confident, in the class of 52, that with 62.5 marks in his hands, everyone gets a sure pass @ 50 based on whatever you write .. er... scribble, which was the case with seniors.... the day of reckoning came, and we saw only 9 passed, and rest fluncked at miserable scores. We call that CUP in college lingo, down south. For most, coming from the best of the best schools, with limited engineering seats at PSG comparable to IITs, this was a nightmare, and first of its kind. On seeing this huge flunks, the HOD and the Senior staff and college management, came down to talk to us, and no one, except me asked them why this was not known to them for years. The answer was funny, but I want to keep it for myself!

Who pays for new fund expenses?

For the Indian Mutual Funds NFO, they are having a money making funtime. A recent NFO garnered 2700 crore rupees, and imagine, 85 crores were paid as marketing fee for their own subsidiary, for doing nothing!

They are having a ball of time, like paying part of the 6% - upto 3% to their own marketing subsidiary! (Reliance is the only exception - a very good fund, next comes Sahara).

SEBI regulations allow a fund house to spend up to 6 per cent of the amount collected during a new fund offer on initial issue expenses and charge this to fund.
Earlier, funds charged the entire initial issue expenses to the starting NAV, when the fund re-opened for subscription.

As the entire issue expenses were lopped off from the first NAV, a new fund would usually open below par (if the stock market hadn't risen sharply in the meantime).
But over the past couple of years, fund houses have moved to a practice where initial issue expenses are "amortised", or spread out equally over a five-year period.

This prevents a new fund's opening NAV from taking a knock, instead phasing out the impact of issue expenses on the NAV over its first five years.

Tamilnadu Assembly Elections May 2006

This year, the Tamilnadu Assembly Elections to be conducted on May 8, 2006 seems to be a keen contest all over. We may not see this fervour of Dravidian parties, again ever!

The ruling AIADMK party (seat sharing with MDMK), is pitted against a formidable alliance of the DMK, minus MDMK. This is 34.65% against 57% vote bank, based on the last election in 2004. There is always 10 to 12.5% people in the undecided category, voting for the anti-incumbency!

Now DMDK - the party founded by Vijaykant and AIFB (original) headed by Karthik and BJP, plus JP, Pudhiya Thamilagam, along with other sundry parties, including the Agriculturists Party, might make a great impact and might even win! (130 out of 234, with a 33% vote bank)

All parties are trying to make the best, well educated, mannered and the best possible winnable candidates presented to people. All are willing to work for the people, giving away their efforts and hard earned cash!

Now it takes a whopping effort for the people, for all, to go out and vote and make their right choice.

Looking for ward for the results on May 13th, 2006. Stars are indicating that Vijaykant is the next Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, if he aligns with the BJP, JP, AIFB, Pudhiya Thamilagam and other parties - working on a co-alition government...

Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Reliance ADAG

As a shareholder in RelCom, I am appalled by the decision of the Chairman Anil, to appoint the short swansong Dhoni (after seeing the second innings knock at Mumbai, getting out recklessly)... I am worried about what would happen to my as well other public investments.

Earlier there was Adlabs, might click, not this blunder.

If I were the CEO of RelCom, I would cancel the contract with Dhoni.

Chicken, Flu (H5N1) and Homeopathy Cure!

I was reading the latest Health Magazine (march 2006 issue) from Dr.Batra's clinic and saw the editorial insight of Dr.Mukesh Batra, about the chicken etc.

He feels that all lives are created to co-exist and we should not eat meat. But he missed out on eating usign animal secretions! (milk, scent of a cat, fur etc.., )

Definitely homeopathy have cured 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic which killed 5 million people, and this homeo treatment could be the solution. You have to contact any home doctor for the influenzium of T500C.

Now we see deaths in India based on H5N1 at Maharastra.

May be there is a conspiracy of the Tamiflu producers ( Rs 3000/- a shot/course) let loose this H5N1. Robin cook novel, can talk in detail.

You can buy Homeo #24 from the counter for fighting vigor against any flu. Better check with your physician. I dont guarantee!

Sabeer Bhatia and the BlogEverywhere.com

That seems to be a novel from Sabeer Bhatia. Sounds like a funda tool. I am not sure about the data surfing privacy that would offer.

I am also running around to VCs, to get funding for a new idea. Mobile voice to blog post. Two modes, complete confidential (intranet style) or password access. Then there is the regular access.

Shock Victory for South Africa in One Day Cricket

Against Australia, South Africa has a memorable Gibbsed in a ODI recently on March 12, 2006.

Chasing 434/4 by Australia in 50 overs, they made 438/9, with a ball to spare on the flattest pitch at the Wanderers stadium. Alas, in Chennai, where I am living, due to the CAS (set top box ), we couldnt watch it, except on Star News for the final, nail biting over. The government should scrap the CAS or give it free. Now it costs rs 2919, plus taxes amounting to 3500 rs, and there is a monthly compusolry package of 230 to 299 rs. Now we pay flat at 100 rs only, even though it is expected to be at rs 72 only, rs 28 gets pocketed! No bills issued.

Mr.Ponting is stupid for not having shared the Man of the Match! Share the glory man!

Still they are celebrating!

How to make Rs 100000 a month not working?

A GLASS OF MILK

A Glass of Milk

One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door.Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, How much do I owe you? You don't owe me anything, she replied. "Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness." He said..... "Then I thank you from my heart."As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit. Many year's later that same young woman became critically ill.The local doctors were baffled! They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes.Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room. Dressed in his doctor's gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once. He went back to the consultation room determined to do his bestto save her life. From that day he gave special attention to her case. After a long struggle, the battle was won.Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge, and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure itwould take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She read these words....."Paid in full with one glass of milk" (Signed) Dr. HowardKelly. Tears of joy flooded her eyes as her happy heart prayed: "Thank You, God, that Your love has spread broad through human hearts and hands."There's a saying which goes something like this: Bread cast on the waters, comes back to you. The good deed you do today may benefit you or someone you love at the least expected time. If you never see the deed again at least you will have made the world a better place - And, after all, isn't that what life is all about?

India won against England at Mohali

It was a nice win for India with 9 wickets to spare on the last day at Mohali. About 180 overs were lost due to rain, still the match was over, when there was time left for anotehr 30 more.

Hats off to Kumle for his 500th wicket. He is a league of his own. Excellent. It was nice to see him groomign Piyush Chawla on debut. Harbhajan might have lost a bit, nevertheless, his support was crucial.

Sehwag, as usual, did well to come back well with a 76 not out. I think this is his second fifty plus score in the second innings, the first one being a century at New Zealand.

The team is same for the Mumbai test starting on March 18th, and I expect that the dust bowl would return, and the same team being fielded.

It was nice to see that the guy from bet365.com shown the doors, as it is illegal to bet in India!

The gap between rich and poor - NRN Murthy

The gap between rich and poor countries has doubled in the past 40 years. ... There are 1.2 billion people in this world who live in extreme poverty, on income of less than $1 per day. About one billion people lack access to safe drinking water. ... Can we be catalysts in wiping the tears off the eyes of the poorest of the poor? Can the chime bring solace not just to the chosen few on this country but to a forlorn child in the remote lands of Africa? ... How can we address the myriad problems that cripple the development of mankind as a whole?'

Nagawara Ramarao Narayana Murthy like his divine wife Sudha Murthy does strongly believe in giving. Giving speeches, that is.

Indiatimes - Cheaters on Online Shopping

This episode is a warning for the online shoppers...

I regularly look for deals online and order VCDs for my family.

I recently had very bad experience on the online store of Indiatimes group. http://store.indiatimes.com

Lots of cheating goes on in terms of what is offered and what is given.

(1) I had ordered Hanuman VCD, and I was to get Popeye VCD and Spiderman VCD free. It is not given.

(2) Also to my anguish I see that the cost of Mitr My friend VCD on price tag MRP is rs 199/- only, whereas I have been billed rs 299/-. This amounts to cheating, Sec 420 under IPC.

I have also written about this to Raj Sardesai of CNN IBN, as they have exposed so many things on the CNN IBN channel and I hope they would run a small story, not considering this as trivial.

About starting a software co. with Rs 10,000/-

I keep reading about Infosys and Polaris, starting as a software co. with Rs 10,000/- as initial capital.

Just a few paise worth my thoughts, as I have run my own co. too.... for 9 months and blew Rs. 70 lakhs in all, having about 20 employees in a very comfortable office. In the last part, I couldnt afford running my own paid website, so switched to the one hosted by Tripod.

You would need at least 25 lakhs to run a co. in today terms, to establish and pay rent and develop something and market for 6 months, on the meagre side. I did few trips abroad and spent few lakhs more apart from spending few lakhs on meeting VC's in India.

On indexing the above amount (even if other founders have worked for free!) it would have costed Infosys atleast 2 lakhs (conservative) those days of 1981... For that matter for Polaris it would have costed about 10 lakhs (very conservative) in 1993.

My friend, who is aged 70 and a famous old writer says, you need to contact the right powerful people in the right time, willing to take risk in your name. (benami's)

About Swing Trading in Stock Markets

There are enough websites in the world, promising people to make money on the day trading, based on the swing. I understand all the web trading companies provide for the margin trading and the recently listed bulls co made 500 crore rupees profit last year only on financing!

When I lost money running my own co. at Coimbatore called Sharon Software Systems (http://www.sharonsoftsys.com ) and lost more than 25 lakhs in around 9 months apart from the 100 K USD given by the angel investor, wanted to recover quick buck from stock market, so a good friend who is a freelancing investor advised me on margin trading, which was to buy 5 times the value of stock at 10 AM, and sell at 2 PM the same day (with profit or loss), mostly at loss and lost a lakh. The fun part was, I even got back some of my money given as brokerage (charged for all the stocks bought and sold)....

This is a quick note and humble input.

Da Vinci Code in Court

"The Da Vinci Code" is on best seller lists for three years, and now moviwe is getting ready.

There is a court case that has perhaps as many twists and plot turns as the novel itself, the book's author Dan Brown is being called a thief.

There are two authors claim much of what's in "The Da Vinci Code" was their idea and was stolen from their book, "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail", a work of non-fiction, first published 24 years ago. They're suing the publisher, for breach of copyright. Dan Brown, who wrote "The Da Vinci Code", will be a key witness. He has made a fortune off the book, selling 40 million copies, but denies he stole anything.

The 2 books do share common themes: that Jesus did not die on the cross, that he married Mary Magdalene, had a child, and that bloodline continues to this day. Both books are published by the same company, which issued this statement: ".... takes no pleasure in defending a legal action that it believes is without merit and we are confident we will prevail."

"In non-fiction, it's always been understood that there's no monopoly of ideas when something's out in the public domain. You can use it, you can adapt it," said a copyright law expert.

Publicity is good news for places like Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland, setting of the book's climax. Visitor numbers have tripled. There are millions of dollars at stake. The movie's release in the UK could be delayed, and if the case succeeds, it could send a chill through the world of fiction.

Click here to visit the About.com that gives background on the book and the theory.

About Sourav Ganguly's selection

It was very disappointing for Sourav Ganguly to not have made the team, better luck in the next test.

Infusing the young ones in the team is fine, but at what cost?

Already there are enough issues in the board and looking back last year with the More Kale episode, one has to wonder about the quota system selection of teams.

A person who has established himself well enough for the last few years needs a break! Raina or Kaif is not the replacement....

May be Sourav should retire gracefully! (or give a try till the current 50 lakhs contract expires).

Dravid and Chappell are not making the Indian cricket shine. They have to learn from neighbors selections, for example on the inclusion/exclusion of Jayasuriya - considered one of the best captains and prolific run scorer. Forms come and go, the same happened with Yuvraj. Now even without injury worries, if he can sustain, that would be great!
